ANNA FISHER-ROBERTS, (SORTA) CLASSICAL FLUTIST

ABOUT
Praised for her intuitive musicality, technical mastery, and natural stage presence, Anna Fisher-Roberts takes the masterpieces of classical music into the modern era. With innovative, interactive performances featuring both brand-new and time-honored pieces, Anna brings classical music to modern audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

Anna's performances stretch the outer limits of the classical flute, bringing in audience participation and collaborations with artists and writers. Anna's groundbreaking "Choose Your Own Adventure Telemann Fantasies" concert, which includes aleatoric elements and features artists from around the country, has been performed three separate times to resounding success, most recently at the 2020 New York Flute Convention. Anna is often praised for striking performances that engage audiences from start to finish with lively conversations about the music and passionate, emotional energy. Currently, Anna is performing with Boston Conservatory ensembles, as well as working with songwriter Andy Lawlor to create original music.

Anna has performed as principal flute of ensembles including UW Wind Ensemble and Symphony, Wisconsin Philharmonic, and various Boston Conservatory groups, including the Conductor’s Orchestra and the contraBAND. Anna has been featured as a soloist with ensembles at UW Madison, and she has hosted several solo recitals that include great solo works for flute by Bach, Prokofiev, Mozart, Copland, and more.
Anna was the winner of the 2018 Irving Shain Woodwind Competition and the 2021 “Gen Z” Chamber Music Competition. She has also commissioned and premiered over a dozen new pieces. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Anna launched the Quarantine Flute Project, releasing free online recordings of music for flute.

Anna is a native of Flagstaff, Arizona, where she studied with Jeannette Moore, principal flutist of the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra. Anna earned her Bachelor’s in flute performance at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where she studied with Stephanie Jutt and Dr. Timothy Hagen. Currently, she is pursuing a Master’s degree at the Boston Conservatory with Sarah Brady.
